Impedance Measurement in BMS

Impedance measurement is the concept of tracking a battery cell’s internal opposition to electrical current flow. The Battery Management System (BMS) injects small AC signals into the cells to measure both the internal resistance and reactance, thereby assessing overall battery health, temperature, and degradation in real time. It enables state-of-health tracking, state-of-charge tuning, temperature estimation, and safety and anomaly detection.
