IP (Ingress Protection) Ratings

IP ratings, or ingress protection ratings, outline the durability of a battery enclosure against solids and liquids, typically dust and water. The first digit, ranging from 0 to 6, indicates solid protection, while the second digit, ranging from 0 to 9, indicates liquid protection.

In solid protection, 0 is no protection, 1 to 4 is protection against large objects, 5 is dust-protected, and 6 is a complete seal against dust and dirt. In liquid protection, 0 is no protection; 1 to 4 is protection against condensation, light rain, and splashed water; 5 can withstand low-pressure water jets; 6 can withstand high-pressure water jets; 7 is minimal immersion; 8 is continuous immersion; and 9 can withstand high-pressure, high-temperature steam cleaning.
